| Definition: | Dumping syndrome is characterized by hypovolemic symptoms (palpitations, flushing, sweating, weakness, dyspnea, dizziness) after eating. It is usually the result of rapid passage of large amount of food from the stomach into the small intestine, often after surgery of the stomach (which may cause the stomach to lose its ability to regulate its rate of emptying). The incompletely digested food absorbs fluid from plasma and causes hypovolemia. | ||
