 Definition: 

(AES, Rijndael) The symmetric block cipher, designed by Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen, that won the nist's contest for a replacement for the data encryption standard (DES).

Final, official acceptance as a Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) is expected some time between April and June 2001.

AES currently supports 128, 192 and 256-bit keys and encryption blocks, but may be extended in multiples of 32 bits.
